Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that reshapes the nose for aesthetic or functional reasons. While common, it is a complex operation that requires the expertise of a skilled and experienced surgeon. If you are considering nose surgery in Brussels, selecting the right practitioner can be challenging. Here is how to find a rhinoplasty surgeon in Brussels and what to expect from the procedure.

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also referred to as nose surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to change the shape or size of the nose. It can be performed to reduce a dorsal hump, lift a drooping nasal tip, straighten a deviated septum, or correct asymmetry. The procedure is suitable for noses that are too wide, too narrow, too long, or too short.

Rhinoplasty may also address functional issues. A malformed nose or a deviated septum can impair normal breathing, and surgery can help restore proper airflow.

There are two types of procedures: surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty. At the Brussel Surgical & Esthetic Center, we exclusively perform surgical rhinoplasty. Our plastic surgeons do not recommend hyaluronic acid injections, as they are not effective in the long term and can complicate future surgical interventions.

Choosing your rhinoplasty surgeon in Brussels

Two types of specialists may perform rhinoplasty: plastic surgeons and ENT (ear, nose, and throat) surgeons. The former specialize in the aesthetic refinement of the nose and, depending on the surgeon, may also treat functional issues. ENT surgeons, on the other hand, focus on the internal structures of the nose and are trained to address breathing problems, though they are not always trained in aesthetics.

If your goal is both aesthetic and functional correction, it is best to consult a plastic surgeon. If your concern is purely functional, either type of specialist may be appropriate. In any case, it is essential to choose a surgeon with specific experience in rhinoplasty. Ensure that they are certified, that they regularly perform this type of surgery, and that they have an extensive portfolio.

You may also request before-and-after photos of previous patients and read testimonials. This will give you a clearer idea of the surgeon’s skills and the quality of their work.

Scheduling a first consultation at the Brussel Surgical & Esthetic Center

To choose your surgeon and confirm whether the operation is appropriate for your goals, you may schedule an initial consultation at the Brussel Surgical & Esthetic Center with one of our specialists. Our medical team and surgeons will take the time to explain the entire process, assess your case, and provide digital simulations of your future nose to help you visualize the results.

Depending on your situation, additional exams may be required after this consultation to evaluate the feasibility of the surgery, such as sleep studies, nasal endoscopy, cervical CT scan, blood work, and photographs. A full quote will be provided at the end of this consultation.

This appointment is also an opportunity to ask all your questions regarding the procedure, the expected and possible outcomes, previous cases, recovery, and more. No question is off-limits.

How rhinoplasty is performed in Brussels

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia in a day hospital setting. The procedure may last from one to four hours depending on the complexity of your case. On average, our surgeons operate for two hours. In most cases, you may return home the same day.

Two approaches are available: endonasal or open rhinoplasty. In the endonasal (closed) technique, the surgeon operates from within the nostrils, making internal incisions to reshape the cartilage and nasal bone structures. In open rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes an incision at the base of the nose to lift the skin, providing greater visibility and control for more precise modifications.

In both cases, at the end of the procedure, the surgeon closes the incisions and places intranasal packing. Depending on the method used, a nasal cast or splint may also be applied.

Postoperative care is crucial.

Your surgeon will provide detailed instructions for postoperative care to reduce swelling and bruising and to support healing. Nasal breathing may be difficult for several weeks. A follow-up consultation is scheduled one week after surgery to remove stitches, the protective splint, and silicone plates. During this visit, the surgeon will assess the results and healing process.
You will begin to see the first visible results around the three-month mark, with the final outcome fully apparent after one year.

Choosing the right surgeon is essential to achieving a successful rhinoplasty that enhances both appearance and quality of life. If you are looking for a rhinoplasty specialist in Brussels, the surgeons at the Brussel Surgical & Esthetic Center are here to help. We will recommend the practitioner best suited to your specific case. You may schedule an initial consultation for a complete overview of the procedure and to ask any questions you may have.
