Starting to lose your hair? Discover the benefits of hair restoration

Hair loss can be a source of discomfort, but fortunately, hair restoration is an accessible and increasingly common solution. It delivers excellent results for regaining fuller, natural-looking hair.

While Turkey and Hungary are often mentioned as destinations for this procedure, traveling abroad is not a necessity. You can easily undergo a hair transplant in Belgium. In addition to more thorough medical follow-up, the cost is only slightly higher.

What is a hair transplant?

Hair restoration, also known as a hair transplant, is an effective method for treating alopecia. The procedure involves extracting micro hair grafts from donor areas such as the nape or back of the head and transplanting them into areas where hair is thinning or absent.

This technique helps restore thick, natural-looking hair. Regrowth typically begins after three months, with final results appearing between six months and one year. These results are long-lasting and permanent.

What hair transplant techniques are available in Brussels?

Currently, two main techniques are used for hair transplantation:

  1. FUE technique (Follicular Unit Extraction): This is the most common and least invasive method. It involves extracting individual follicles using a specialized tool. This technique is painless and leaves no visible scarring, making it an ideal option for those who prefer to wear their hair short.
  2. FUT technique (Follicular Unit Transplantation): This method involves removing a strip of skin containing follicles, which is then divided into micro grafts for transplantation. Although less frequently used today, it may leave visible scarring in the donor area.

How does a hair transplant work?

The procedure lasts between 6 and 8 hours and is carried out in two phases: follicle extraction and transplantation. A break is scheduled between the two phases for the patient.

Step 1: Follicle extraction

The surgeon begins by shaving the donor and recipient areas to facilitate extraction. Under local anesthesia, follicles are harvested using a precise tool called a punch, with a diameter smaller than 1 mm. These follicles, each containing 1 to 4 hairs, are then placed in a preservation solution to maintain their vitality.

Step 2: Follicle transplantation

After administering local anesthesia to the recipient area, the surgeon creates small incisions using a fine sapphire blade to accommodate the follicles. These are then inserted one by one using a special implantation pen, following the natural hair growth angle to ensure a natural and aesthetic result.

Results and recovery

Results begin to appear after three months, with full regrowth achieved between six months and one year. In the first few days, bleeding, itching, or scabbing may occur, but these effects typically resolve within 15 to 30 days.

Healing of the donor areas is rapid, and patients can resume normal activities as early as the next day.

How much does a hair transplant cost in Brussels?

Prices depend on the duration of the procedure and the number of follicles to be transplanted. Here are some examples:

  • 5 to 6 hours (3000 follicles): €3,800
  • 12 hours (6500 follicles): €7,200

Although the procedure involves a certain cost, it offers lasting results. In Belgium, you also benefit from strict medical follow-up, which is not always guaranteed abroad.
